On June 29, the China Economic and Social Council (CESC) held a seminar in Wuhan, Hubei province, on promoting the green and low-carbon transition of the manufacturing industry, after conducting a six-day field trip to enterprises in Hubei and Anhui provinces. Representatives of the Anhui provincial government participated in the seminar via video link. 

From June 23 to 28, a CESC team visited more than 20 enterprises in Anhui and Hubei to learn about the implementation of the decisions and plans of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on clean energy transition. 

Zhang Qingli, vice-chairman of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of the CESC, said that the important arrangements made by the 20th National Congress of the CPC on promoting the high-end, intelligent and green development of the manufacturing industry have provided fundamental principles and guidance for building China into a great power with advanced manufacturing industries. 

Zhang pointed out that the green and low-carbon transition is crucial to achieving high-quality development, realizing the Chinese modernization, accomplishing the goals for carbon peak and carbon neutrality and meeting people's aspirations for a better life. 

He said that both Anhui and Hubei are major manufacturers and have achieved solid results in promoting the transformation, upgrading, and acceleration of the manufacturing industry, as well as the promotion and publicity of green manufacturing concepts. However, they still face difficulties and problems that are typical for the manufacturing industry in the country. 

Zhang urged local governments to implement the various policies of the central government and promote the transformation of traditional manufacturing industries and the development of strategic emerging industries according to local conditions. 

He called for new efforts to advance the innovation and application of green technologies,to promote the coordinated transformation of industrial and supply chains, and to fully leverage the advantages of CPPCC organizations and high-level think tanks to provide countermeasures against challenges of and suggestions on promoting the high-quality development of the country's manufacturing industry.
