On June 28, the Committee on Social and Legal Affairs of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) conducted a supervision and held a symposium in Beijing on the handling of a key proposal on establishing an assistance and education system for juvenile offenders. He Baoxiang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang (RCCK), attended the events.

The proposal, undertaken by the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council, is one of 72 key proposals of the CPPCC National Committee this year.

The supervision team visited Haidian Boarding School and the Haidian District People's Procuratorate, to gain a deeper understanding of the progress of assistance and education, as well as the prosecutorial work for minors. They also made discussions and exchanged ideas with representatives of relevant departments, enterprises and social workers.

The team said that the importance of strengthening the protection of the rights and interests of juveniles, and the urgency of advancing assistance and education available for juvenile offenders should be fully understood from the perspective of the nation's overall development.

It called on families, schools, governments, judicial organs and society to closely work together to further improve the assistance and education of minor offenders, and put into solid effect the Law on the Protection of Minors and the Law on the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency.
