A team from the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party (CPWDP) went to Dafang county, Southwest China's Guizhou province, from June 14 to 16, to survey the improvements made to the paired assistance program. Yang Zhen, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the CPWDP Central Committee, headed the team.

Dafang, in Bijie city, is the paired assistance county of the CPWDP Central Committee.

The team visited Shexiang town, which is the centralized resettlement site for poverty alleviation in Dafang. The ancient town has become a national AAAA-level tourist area that integrates sightseeing, leisure experience, catering and shopping.

They also visited demonstration sites for rural vitalization, biotechnology companies, gastrodia elata growing bases and local hospitals.

After years of efforts since the CPWDP Central Committee started to provide targeted assistance for Dafang in 1994, the county has taken on a new look with prosperous industries, well-off farmers and beautiful countryside.

The team called for new moves to promote the high-quality development of the local cultural and tourism industry to drive employment and increase the income of local people, support leading enterprises and cultivate new agricultural business entities.

The team pointed out that the need for assistance in Dafang should be met with accurate solutions and effective measures, and should be taken as an opportunity to improve the protection of the ecological environment and promote rural ecological vitalization.
