The first International Summit on Publishing Education was held on June 17 in Beijing, with experts discussing solution strategies that focus on publishing education and talent cultivation in an era of media convergence and media convergence development of multinational publishing companies.

Zhu Yongxin, executive vice-chairman of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD) Central Committee, said that as the CAPD is the only party among the eight non-CPC parties that focuses on the publishing sector, it is duty bound to accelerate integration of the publishing and education industries and to further in-depth exchanges among publication and education circles to achieve the sector's high-quality development.

Zhu, also vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, noted that the publishing industry plays an irreplaceable role in boosting cultural inheritance and development, as well as international exchanges.

He said that the new forms of communication prompted by media convergence have brought about epoch-making changes of technologies and industrial models and posed a challenge for publishing education. He called on Chinese and foreign experts to collaborate on exploring solutions to the emerging issues to help the sector better adapt to the new business trends.

The summit was jointly sponsored by Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, the Publishing and Media Committee of the CAPD Central Committee, and the Publishers Association of China.
