The Committee on Proposals of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) sent a survey team to Shantou, Shenzhen, Dongguan and Guangzhou in South China's Guangdong province from June 2 to 6, to carry out research on promoting the high-end, intelligent and green development of the manufacturing industry.

Shi Taifeng, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, participated in the survey and addressed the related symposium held in Guangzhou. Shi is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee.

The research team visited enterprises, factories and industrial parks to talk with enterprise heads, managers, front-line workers, experts and scholars, and listened to their introductions and suggestions. They deepened their understanding and knowledge of the development goals and tasks, current difficulties and practical paths of promoting the high-end, intelligent and green development of the manufacturing industry.

The research team fully affirmed the major achievements made by the whole country and Guangdong in promoting the high-end, intelligent and green development of the manufacturing industry since the 18th National Congress of the CPC.

They said that promoting the high-end, intelligent and green development of the manufacturing industry is an inevitable requirement for realizing Chinese modernization, an urgent need for building a competitive advantage as a major country, a strategic choice for achieving high-quality economic development, and an important guarantee for safeguarding national security.

It is necessary to focus on innovation and high-end links of industrial chain, strengthen the weak links in industrial chain, accelerate the research and development of key technologies, constantly improve the value added and competitiveness of products, and upgrade the manufacturing industry to the middle and high-end of the value chain, according to the research team.

The team also stressed that it is necessary to vigorously promote the intelligent digital transformation of the manufacturing industry, improve the construction of a standard system in the field of digital transformation, guide the majority of enterprises to formulate a clear development path, and accelerate the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry.

Efforts should be made to determine the energy consumption and carbon emissions of the sub-sectors of the manufacturing industry, promote the green transformation of the traditional manufacturing industry, and accelerate the transformation of the manufacturing industry into green and low-carbon development.
