The Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) conducted a survey in Shanghai, and the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions from May 18 to 24.
The survey focused on promoting the better integration of Hong Kong and Macao youth into the overall development of the country.
During the survey, the research team visited social organizations, patriotic education bases, exchange centers and start-up workshops for young people in Hong Kong and Macao.
A number of symposiums were held to carry out in-depth exchanges with, and listen to suggestions from leading officials of the relevant departments of the SAR governments and the liaison offices of the central government in Hong Kong and Macao, as well as local CPPCC members, representatives of social organizations, youth representatives, experts and scholars.
According to the team, promoting the better integration of the young people of Hong Kong and Macao into the overall national development is of long-term significance and a fundamental way to ensure the lasting implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle.
At present, patriotic education for the youth in the two SARs, especially in Hong Kong, needs to be further strengthened. The research team found that there are some weak links for young people from Hong Kong and Macao to study, find jobs, start businesses and buy property on the mainland. There are still "last mile" problems in the implementation of some preferential policies and measures for the two regions.
The team agreed that it is necessary to further build consensus on promoting the integration of young people in Hong Kong and Macao into the country's overall development, strengthen coordination and improve relevant working mechanisms, and improve patriotic education among young people in Hong Kong and Macao. It is also important to expand the scope of mutual recognition of qualifications, improve social security policies, get through the "last mile" of the implementation of policies benefiting people from Hong Kong and Macao, and facilitate the convenient flow of people, logistics, capital and information.
More efforts should be made to accelerate the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into a high-quality life circle good for living, work and travel, so as to help the young people of Hong Kong and Macao better integrate themselves into the overall development of the country.
