The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a video consultative conference in Beijing on May 12, focusing on promoting the expansion of high-quality medical resources and balanced regional layout.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting.

Wang urged for the integration of thoughts and actions with the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee on health work to further promote the development of a healthy China with a high sense of responsibility and mission.

He said that promoting the expansion of high-quality medical resources and balanced regional layout is an important task proposed by the 20th CPC National Congress.

He called for greater efforts to publicize the achievements, policies and advantages of China's healthcare industry so as to forge a broad consensus and strengthen confidence in reforming the country's medical and public health system.

Eleven CPPCC members, including Cao Xuetao, Hu Shengshou, Yao Jianhong and Zhao Jiajun, delivered speeches via video link from different locations across the country, calling for efforts to accurately define the positioning and goals for developing national medical centers and national-level regional medical centers, and to establish a relevant supporting policy guarantee mechanism.

They agreed that it is necessary to build a pyramid structure to cultivate and utilize talented medical professionals at different levels, and increase support for the training of talented professionals urgently needed in grassroots regions and remote areas.

The CPPCC members proposed to give play to medical insurance as a lever to promote the classification and optimization of medical resources, to further enhance the capacity of grassroots traditional Chinese medicine services, and to encourage medical institutions to use new technologies such as the internet.
