A research team of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) conducted an eight-day research trip to the provinces of Guangdong and Anhui from April 21 to 28, aiming at accelerating the promotion of elderly-oriented renovations.
The research team visited neighborhoods, elderly care service centers, and nursing homes in Zhuhai, Zhongshan and Guangzhou in South China's Guangdong, and Ma'anshan, Wuhu and Hefei in East China’s Anhui, to learn about measures taken to improve elderly accessibility and collect opinions. During the visits, they also held seminars to communicate and exchange ideas with local government departments.
He Baoxiang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang (RCCK), attended the survey in Guangdong. He said that a series of important decisions and plans related to the issue of aging population have been made since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012.
He affirmed that local CPC committees and governments have actively explored and made significant results in accelerating elderly-oriented renovations. He called for greater efforts and further explorations to create replicable and promotable practices and standards to ensure the full achievement of the goals and tasks set in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25).
He added that elderly-oriented social renovation is not only a livelihood project, but also a systematic project. CPC committees and governments should better incorporate the aging adaptation reform into the overall layout of the elderly care system construction, fully leverage the market role, cultivate professionals and strengthen public awareness of the issue.
