Members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committe have submitted about 29,000 proposals in the past five years on various topics and many of them have promoted the decision making of the government, a spokesman said on Friday.
Guo Weimin, the spokesman for the first session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, made the remarks at a news conference on Friday, before the opening of the session on Saturday.
Summarizing the work of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC, which serves its five-year term until this year's gathering, Guo said: "It has played its role as the special consultative agency in the country's governance system."
In the past five years, more than 100 consultant meetings were organized on various topics, including high-quality development of the private economy, food security, education, aging population, rural vitalization, and epidemic prevention, according to him.
To improve work efficiency, various means have been adopted in the past five years to help CPPCC members better perform their duties, such as the use of information technology in holding meetings and submitting proposals, according to Guo.
More than 210 video meetings were held last year, in which many CPPCC members joined discussions via video links, Guo said.
Meanwhile, a mobile application has been designed for CPPCC members to communicate in group chat, and 144 discussion groups on various topics have been launched, he said.
More than 92 percent of proposals have been submitted through the app, according to him.
