On Jan 31, the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) convened its sixth plenary session in Beijing.

Zheng Jianbang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang (RCCK), attended and addressed the plenary meeting.

Zheng said that the Committee on Foreign Affairs has earnestly studied and implemented the guiding principles of the Central Conference on the CPPCC's Work; bore in mind the country's most fundamental interests; focused on building itself into a key base to uphold and strengthen the Party's leadership over all areas of endeavor, a key platform to unite, educate and guide representatives of all ethnic groups and sectors with the Party's new theories, as well as a key channel to resolve disputes and build consensus on the common theoretical and political foundation; put heart into the implementation of the policies of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the mobilization of the people and the development of the rural collective economy; and forged greater consensus, fully leveraged its strength and fulfilled its duties wholeheartedly with fruitful results over the past five years.

He noted that over the past five years, the Leading Party Members' Group of the Committee on Foreign Affairs has given priority to the study and implementation of the CPC's theories, taken the lead in the implementation of the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress, and focused on central work of the CPC and the country.

It has conducted in-depth research and surveys; participated in democratic supervision, political consultation and international exchanges; pooled positive energy for the building of a community with a shared future for mankind; lodged solemn representations over anti-China rhetoric from the US and European countries and the unwelcome visit of former US House of Representatives speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan; organized for CPPCC members to fulfill their duties and to take part in a series of themed activities; and showcased a positive image of CPPCC members in the new era with concrete actions.

Zheng stressed that the CPPCC's work must be done with persistent efforts, one generation after another. He also called for efforts to thoroughly study and act on the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress, promote the fine traditions of the CPPCC, and strive in unity to advance great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization.
