Taiwan compatriots will enjoy more development opportunities and dividends, along with the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) on the Chinese mainland and continuously integrated cross-Straits progress, said Pan Xinyang, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and a member of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSL).

Speaking up for cross-Straits integration has always been the focus of Pan's performance as a member of the CPPCC committees at district, city and national levels over the past 20 years.

"Listening to and reflecting the voices of Taiwan's 23 million compatriots is the top priority of the members of the TDSL and Taiwan native CPPCC members in discussing politics and making suggestions," said Pan, a Taiwan native, in an interview after he won an honor for excellent performance of duty as a CPPCC National Committee member in 2022.

"As the only political party with regional characteristics among the eight non-Communist parties in China, our focus is to promote cross-Straits exchanges, integration and development," he said.

Over the past five years, Pan has submitted seven proposals to the Committee on Proposals of the CPPCC National Committee, covering the promotion of the peaceful and integrated development of cross-Straits relations, advancing the cause of the reunification of the motherland, opposing the separatist activities of "Taiwan independence" and facilitating people-to-people exchanges between the two sides. Pan’s proposals received quick responses and were actively implemented by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council and other relevant organizations.

Pan is also very concerned about the progress of the country's general policies. After rounds of investigations on the safety supervision of take-out food, for instance, he suggested at a consultation forum that the government supervision authorities should intervene in the existing evaluation mechanism and establish a quantitative evaluation system for food safety supervision as soon as possible, to prevent and control hidden safety dangers of take-out food and safeguard the rights and interests of consumers.

During the annual two sessions in 2022, Pan submitted a proposal about "boosting the digital development of small and medium-sized enterprises and the construction of e-commerce platforms for better coordinated growth of enterprises across the Taiwan Straits, a result of his research and endeavors in the past few years.

In response to deeply implementing the national strategy of empowering the country with talents in the new era, he proposed to improve the comprehensive training of talents in basic disciplines and build a team of teachers of basic disciplines to bridge middle-school education and higher learning in China.

Pan's proposals and concerns have also referred to the construction of an environmental civilization and the promotion of traditional Chinese medicine, especially in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Meanwhile, he has also actively involved himself as a tutor in book reading activities launched by the CPPCC National Committee in 2020.

"During the reading activities, CPPCC members put forward many valuable opinions and suggestions, which not only enriched the contents of the CPPCC's political consultation, but also helped build consensus and improve the level of advice and political expertise," said Pan.

He said through tutoring the reading activities, he now has a clearer and deeper understanding of the CPC's unremitting efforts in solving the Taiwan question and achieving national reunification over the past century.

"The social and economic development of the Chinese mainland in recent years has attracted worldwide attention, laying a foundation for cross-Straits integration and development, and gathering people from all walks of life in Taiwan, especially the youth, to study, work and start businesses in the mainland. The momentum is getting stronger," Pan said.

"Over the years, I have not only witnessed how the Taiwan league has fulfilled its duty as a participating party and provided advice and suggestions for cross-Straits exchanges and national economic and social development. I have also become a participant, practitioner and defender of Chinese-style democracy, with a better understanding of the advantages of the political system of the mainland," said Pan.

"In the future, I will try my best to use every opportunity to tell the story of Chinese-style democracy to Taiwan compatriots," Pan added.
