A conference on the work of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the national and local committees of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was held in Beijing on Jan 12.

The conference was intended to study and implement the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), sum up the innovative achievements of the Committee on Economic Affairs in 2022 and over the past five years, and map out future work to break new ground.

In his speech at the conference, Gu Shengzu, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, fully acknowledged the work of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the national and local committees of the CPPCC over the past five years.

He said that the Committee on Economic Affairs had adhered to the theme of unity and democracy, strengthened theoretical and political guidance, positioned their development orientation in making proposals for and forging consensus on State affairs, conducted colorful political consultative activities, and promoted economic and social development.

Noting that 2023 is the first year of implementing the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and the first year of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, he called on the Committee on Economic Affairs to follow the overall leadership of the Party, connect CPPCC members and the people, deepen the level of political consultation, fulfill their duties with a high sense of political responsibility and mission, raise personal awareness in both thinking and action, give full play to their advantages, work hard to improve its system, and ensure the full implementation of strategic decisions of the 20th CPC National Congress with concrete actions, in a bid to advance the cause of the CPPCC and the building of a modern socialist country in all respects.

Shang Fulin, chairman of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee, chaired the meeting. Zhang Xiaolian, vice-chairman of the Committee on Economic Affairs, briefed on the innovative experience and performance of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the 13th CPPCC National Committee. Representatives from eight provinces, autonomous region and cities exchanged their views.

The conference was held both online and offline.
