The Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a plenary meeting both online and offline on Jan 11. The meeting reviewed the special committee's work over the past five years, and made arrangements for its work in the years ahead.
In her speech at the plenary meeting, Li Bin, vice-chairwoman and secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, said that since 2018, the committees on population, resources and environment of the national and local committees of the CPPCC have closely followed the central leadership's guidance on strengthening and improving the CPPCC’s work, fully acted on the guiding principles of the Central Conference on the CPPCC's Work, conducted in-depth political consultation over ecological civilization and population development, forged wider consensus, and fulfilled their political duties.
Li stressed that the committees on population, resources and environment at different levels and their members should thoroughly study and implement the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress more conscientiously, grasp a full understanding of the significance and core elements of the 20th CPC National Congress, act on the important policies and decisions made at the key congress on the building of ecological civilization, and come up with constructive proposals on green transformation, the prevention and control of environmental pollution, the protection of biodiversity, and the realization of the country's carbon emission peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
She also called on them to forge more consensus and fulfill political obligations in promoting the harmonious co-existence between mankind and nature on the Chinese path to modernization, beef up organizational building, and further raise their awareness and competence in advancing national development and improving the livelihoods of the people.
He Wei, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, said that the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the 13th CPPCC National Committee and local committees have comprehensively implemented the guiding principles of the 19th and 20th national congresses of the CPC, helped the country better adjust its population policy, cope with aging population and shrinking birth rate, promoted the green transformation of economic and social development, and pushed for the building of a beautiful country.
Noting that 2023 is the first year to fully implement the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and the start of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, He said that the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment should plan its overall work, take into account key objectives and tasks outlined at the Central Economic Work Conference, as well as new economic and social conditions related to population, resources and the environment in their political consultation and participation, firm up the country's confidence in economic recovery, ensure full implementation of major goals specified by the 20th CPC National Congress, and advance the CPPCC's work.
