The fifth Seminar on National Reunification and Rejuvenation took place in Beijing and Wuhan of Central China's Hubei province through an online and onsite format on Nov 22.

Zheng Jianbang, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, delivered a speech at the meeting via video link.

Zheng said China has a strong foundation, sufficient conditions and powerful capabilities to achieve reunification in accordance with its own planning and pace, with the theories and policies having matured since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012.

Noting that the principles of peaceful reunification and "one country, two systems" fully manifest the values of peace, democracy, goodwill and win-win cooperation, Zheng said that the path of peaceful development and integrated development will benefit people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.

Zheng pointed out that resolute efforts are needed to fight against "Taiwan independence" secessionist forces and the interference of external forces, and implement the CPC's overall strategy for resolving the Taiwan question in the new era, as well as decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee.

Nearly 100 scholars and those working in the field of cross-Straits relations participated the meeting in-person or virtually.
