A symposium on the development of the coastal economic belt in Northeast China's Liaoning province was held by the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) via video link on Nov 15.

Focusing on taking coordinated steps to promote industrial transformation and upgrading and spur industrial development of Liaoning's coastal economic belt, the online conference set its main venue in the province's capital Shenyang and parallel venues in other relevant cities.

In his speech at the meeting, Shao Hong, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of Jiusan Society, stressed that all coastal areas of Liaoning must follow the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in both thinking and action, take proactive actions to respond to a shifting landscape, foster new opportunities and open new horizons, adopt coordinated efforts to promote industrial transformation and upgrading, enhance the level of industrial development, implement the new development philosophy, advance the building of a modern industrial system in Liaoning's coastal economic belt in line with the country's modernization drive, and endeavor to make breakthroughs in accelerating the adjustment of industrial structure, expedite the replacement of old growth drivers with new ones, and boost the coastal economic belt's core competitiveness.

Shao noted that local coastal regions shall speed up industrial transformation and upgrading, promote the integrated development of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries, integrate into the new development pattern, strike a balance between economic development and carbon emission reduction, adhere to the green and low-carbon transition, further optimize their business environments, deepen the overall reform, and facilitate high-quality development.

Shao said that the CPPCC will fully leverage its advantages, promote the building of consultative platforms, pool wisdom and strength for the development of the coastal economic belt, and strive to build the symposium into a high-level consultative brand for the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the CPPCC to participate in whole-process people's democracy, and the discussion and handling of State affairs.

Zhou Bo, chairman of the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, presided over the symposium. He said that Liaoning should accelerate the building of a modern industrial system, improve the quality and efficiency of its industry, intensify efforts to develop the real economy, press ahead with the building of innovation-driven economic zones, guide the flow of capital into the real economy, make full use of the supporting role of human resources, facilitate institutional building and roll out more policy support for coordinated development.

Zhou called on the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the CPPCC and municipal committees of the CPPCC in the province to give full play to their functions as political consultative institutions, translate the results of the symposiums into more tangible benefits, and elevate the development of the coastal economic belt in the province to a higher level.
