On Nov 16, the Committee on Proposals of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a symposium to oversee and promote the handling of a key proposal on supporting the development of old revolutionary base areas.

The annual session of the CPPCC National Committee in March received 19 proposals on the vitalization of such areas. The proposal by Zhi Shuping and Wang Jian on establishing an interprovincial, province-ministry consultation and coordination mechanism was later designated as one of the key proposals.

At the meeting, Shao Hong, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said that more efforts are needed to coordinate the high-quality development of such areas and support their accelerated growth, which was stressed in the report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Shao also said that an interprovincial, province-ministry consultation and coordination mechanism can help address key issues affecting common prosperity of such areas and that efforts are needed to improve the working system of this endeavor.
