The Committee on Social and Legal Affairs of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and the China Law Society co-hosted the 2022 Consultative Meeting on Social Governance Innovation in the New Era in Beijing on Nov 10.

The meeting focused on studying the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Participants exchanged ideas on the modernization of the system and capacity for rural governance, and the renovation of homes and residential communities to make them friendlier to elderly people.

Chen Xiaoguang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, said that in the past four years the consultative meeting has become more mature and influential as an effective platform for CPPCC National Committee members to reach out to the people, carry out extensive research and build broader consensus.

Noting that the top political task at present and for some time to come is to study, publicize and implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, Chen called for efforts to enhance the performance of consultative democracy through the CPPCC and improve its democratic oversight system and contact with the people.

He added that the CPPCC should leverage its strengths of an extensive network and talent pool to build consensus and gather wisdom from all sectors of society for the Chinese path to modernization and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
