Shao Hong, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, attended a symposium on the development of Beijing's western area on Nov 4.
The meeting was jointly organized by the Jiusan Society Central Committee, the Jiusan Society Beijing Municipal Committee, and the government of Beijing's Mentougou district.
Shao, also executive vice-chairman of the Jiusan Society Central Committee, stressed Mentougou's revolutionary heritage, cultural resources and important role as an ecological conservation area in Beijing.
The meeting aimed to pool resources and wisdom in coordinating the economic development, cultural endeavors and environmental protection of the area.
Noting that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has drawn up a grand blueprint for China's future development, Shao called for the Jiusan Society to forge ahead and contribute more to building a modern socialist country in all respects.
