Gao Yunlong, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), attended a meeting of the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification in Beijing on Sept 28.

Gao said that the Communist Party of China has united and led Chinese people of all ethnic groups to bring about many miracles over the past 73 years, and that the nation is now closer to, more confident of, and more capable of making the goal of national rejuvenation a reality.

He also said that resolving the Taiwan question and realizing China's complete reunification is an inevitable requirement for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, with the CPC, the Chinese government and people having made long-term unswerving efforts to safeguard cross-Straits peace and the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation.

Noting that overseas compatriots have played active roles in opposing "Taiwan independence", Gao called on the overseas councils for the promotion of China's peaceful reunification to be confident and patient, recognize the difficulties in the reunification process, and make determined, flexible and timely efforts.

Nearly 40 heads of overseas councils for the promotion of China's peaceful reunification from Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas and Oceania attended the meeting.
