The Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD) held a training session on the democratic oversight of the protection of the ecosystem of the Yangtze River, both online and offline in Beijing, from Sept 4 to 5.

During his speech at the opening ceremony, Liu Xincheng, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, executive vice-chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, and deputy head of the leading group on the democratic oversight of the protection of the ecosystem of the Yangtze River, stressed that democratic oversight is one of the basic duties of the participating parties, is vital to fully leverage the institutional strength of China's political party system, and is also key to supporting and helping improve the political party system.

Liu said that the CAPD should grasp the importance of democratic oversight from the perspective of the institutional strength of China's political party system, deepen the sense of obligation, give full play to the strength of non-Communist political parties, ensure the effective implementation of democratic oversight, incorporate democratic oversight into the fulfillment of duties and internal development, guide its members and staff to serve, assimilate and support the work in democratic oversight, and contribute their suggestions.

All provincial committees of the CAPD should strengthen their interactions and coordination on promoting the democratic oversight of the conservation of the ecosystem of the Yangtze River, Liu emphasized. He added that the committees of the CAPD at all levels in East China's Jiangxi province should make full use of their geographical strengths, and that provincial committees of the CAPD along the Yangtze River and all functional departments of the CAPD Central Committee should  take the initiative in their planning, find focal points to promote relevant work, and foster a collaborative, coordinated and sharing working mechanism.

Meanwhile, all provincial committees of the CAPD should attach great importance to the cultivation and recommendation of experts, give full play to the functions of professional personnel and the outcomes of the forum on the conservation and development of the Yangtze River, provide support in the implementation of democratic oversight in terms of findings and human resources, enhance the efficacy of surveys, and follow feedback of existing problems.
