A symposium with outstanding scientific and technological workers of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party (CPWDP) was held in Beijing on Aug 29.

In his speech at the meeting, Chen Zhu, vice-chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee and chairman of the CPWDP Central Committee, said that members of the  CPWDP should channel the expectations of the CPC Central Committee into momentum for the undertaking. He also urged intellectuals to bear in mind fundamental national interests and the concerns of the people, and fulfill their obligations, follow China's political party system characterized by cooperation and consultation, and demonstrate the mission and responsibility of scientific and technological workers.

Chen called on the committees of the CPWDP at all levels and its members to firm up their ideals and beliefs, fulfill their obligations, carry forward fine traditions, strengthen self-discipline, bolster their ideological and political thinking, integrate personal development with the overall development of the country, promote patriotism, carry out the talent-driven party-building strategy, provide scientific and technological workers with strong support, deepen ideological guidance, rally scientific and technological workers closely around common political goals, solicit and publicize public opinion, promote exemplary stories of model scientific and technological workers, and share the stories of multiparty cooperation.

He Wei, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the CPWDP Central Committee, said that the CPWDP and its members must align their thinking, understanding and actions with national strategies in the building of a global hub of talents and an international highland of innovation. They should continue to make historical contributions to bio-pharmaceuticals and green development, stick to the talent-driven party-building strategy, strengthen the cultivation of high-caliber talents, outline the mission and responsibility of scientific and technological workers in the new era, uphold the multiparty system, promote the cause of the CPWDP and the spirit of scientists, and strive for higher achievements.

Senior officials of provincial committees of the CPWDP, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering who are CPWDP members, professors with the title of "Yangtze Scholar", national outstanding young scholars, and award-winning scientific and technological workers attended the conference via video link in its sub-venues in all provincial regions.
