With the support of the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang (RCCK) held a conference in Jinsha county, Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Aug 29, to coordinate and promote the building of eco-civilization in the Chishui River basin, in collaboration with the CPPCC committees of Southwest China's provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan.

Zheng Jianbang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the RCCK, attended and addressed the conference via video link.

Noting that it is the common mission of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan to safeguard the ecological environment of the Chishui River basin and achieve the green and high-quality development of the entire region, Zheng said that the three provinces have joined hands to promote ecological governance, strengthened inter-regional institutional building of an ecological civilization with shared benefits, and made noticeable progress in the improvement of the local natural and ecological environment over the past six years.

With a view to promote the building of ecological civilization and the high-quality development of the Chishui River basin, Zheng stressed that the three regions should build consensus in ecological protection, deepen their understanding on the importance of ecological protection in the Chishui River basin and its vital role in the realization of high-quality economic and social development, incorporate the ecological protection of the Chishui River basin into all aspects of economic and social growth, and build the Chishui River area into a demonstration zone for ecological protection.

Zheng urged efforts to strengthen the collaboration among the three provinces' four cities - Zhaotong in Yunnan, Bijie and Zunyi in Guizhou as well as Luzhou in Sichuan, promote the building of a community with a shared future through the ecological conservation of the Chishui River basin, grasp development opportunities, and take the initiative and rally public support for ecological protection along the river.

He added that the CPPCC will give full play to its role, conduct in-depth research and investigation, promote the process of democratic supervision, come up with valuable proposals, integrate its wisdom and strength into the building of an ecological civilization in the Chishui River basin, and support local Party committees and governments at all levels in the making and implementation of relevant policies and decisions.
