The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a seminar on handling a key proposal on bolstering China's capacity for international communication on July 13.
The seminar, presided over by Kong Quan, vice-chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, was attended by Zheng Jianbang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, officials from the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Culture, Historical Data and Studies of the CPPCC National Committee and from the undertakers of the key proposal including the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, and the China International Communications Group.
In his speech, Zheng said making China better known by the world is a major task in international communication. He urged CPPCC members to improve their political stance; strengthen the consciousness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment with the central Party leadership; enhance confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics; and uphold the CPC Central Committee's authority and its centralized, unified leadership to ensure that all Party members act in unison.
He urged efforts to adhere to a problem-oriented approach, constantly improve their work, better communicate with the rest of the world, and show an image of China that is reliable, admirable and respectable.
Zheng stressed that as an important part of the CPPCC's functions of political consultation and discussion of State affairs, consultation on the handling of proposals manifests the whole-process people's democracy.
CPPCC members should fulfill their duties and tasks with a highly responsible attitude, and the undertakers of the proposal shall implement reasonable suggestions and contribute to improving the effectiveness of the proposal handling.
CPPCC members agreed that China should further sharpen its capabilities in international communication, strengthen its ties with global partners, consolidate people-to-people bonds, create a favorable external environment, and contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
The attendees also exchanged ideas on issues, such as top-level design of non-lingua franca construction, talent cultivation, and the protection of intellectual property rights.
The proposal to improve China's capacity for international communication was among the 76 key proposals selected during the fifth session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee earlier this year.
