The Committee on Proposals of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC)  held a videoconference on July 12 to discuss a key proposal on ginseng resource protection and development.

Zheng Jianbang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, pointed out that the ginseng industry has been playing a unique role in promoting economic growth, public health, national medicine security, poverty reduction, and rural vitalization.

He called for efforts to upgrade the industry for the integrated development of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries around the medicine and sharpen the industry's international competitiveness.

Zheng stressed the protection of ecological environment in scientific planning and rational exploitation and suggested building good brand image for the products.

He also urged creating a good consumption environment by improving product quality, strengthening supervision and monitoring of ginseng products, and increasing investment in scientific and technological innovation.

It's necessary to integrate the ginseng resource protection and development into the national strategy of rural vitalization, and develop a modern industrial system with characteristic advantages.

The proposal to protect and develop ginseng resources was among the 76 key proposals selected during the fifth session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee early this year.
