He Wei, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, led an inspection of biodiversity protection in Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region from July 2 to 5.

The inspection team, made up of non-CPC members of the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the CPPCC National Committee, visited several nature reserves and wetland parks, where they learned about efforts made by the region to protect biodiversity.

China attaches great importance to biodiversity protection and included it in its national economic and social development plan, according to the team members at a symposium after their inspection tour.

They spoke highly of Ningxia's biodiversity protection projects and its practice and experience, noting that biodiversity is the basis for humankind survival and development, an important strategic resource for global sustainable growth, and the "lifeblood and root" of all lives on earth as a community with a shared future.

It's necessary to deepen understanding of the particular significance of biodiversity protection, continue to better promote protection and utilization with the former as a priority, strive to improve biodiversity protection in a more scientific manner, strike a balance between protection and development, and protect animal and plant habitats and their populations, they noted.

The team called on CPPCC members to pool wisdom, build consensus and carry out surveys on improving policy and regulation systems, increase technological support, strengthen monitoring capability, and upgrade management mechanism in biodiversity protection.

The publicity of achievements in biodiversity protection and raising the public awareness of green growth and ecological civilization were also stressed by the team.
