A team of members of the Committee on Culture, Historical Data and Studies of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee went to Southwest China's Guizhou province, from June 28 to July 3, to conduct a survey on the protection and utilization of traditional villages.

The team, led by Liu Xincheng, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, visited a group of villages and townships with traditional or ethnic characteristics in Xingyi, Anshun and Guiyang cities.

During their stay in Guizhou, they held a symposium with officials from the provincial government and related departments to learn about the local governments' efforts in the field and offer suggestions on the issue.

Liu, also executive vice-chairman of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD) Central Committee, pointed out that the protection and utilization of traditional villages is conducive to realizing China's rural vitalization, enhancing cultural identity and fostering the cultural confidence of the Chinese nation.

He called on all local governments to be fully aware of the significance of traditional village protection, improve planning and take concrete actions to vitalize the rural areas and better inherit history and culture.
