Qiang Wei, vice-chairman of the Committee on Social and Legal Affairs of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team to survey the effort to support the entrepreneurship and employment for people with disabilities in Northwest China's Shaanxi province, from June 27 to 30.
The survey team visited special education schools, enterprises, and employment and entrepreneurship incubation bases for the disabled in the cities of Xi'an and Weinan.
At the symposium with local government officials, the team said that China has made progress in disability affairs since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012. A total of 85 million people with disabilities have received support in terms of rehabilitation, education and employment, as well as their spiritual and cultural needs. The team's members also spoke highly of Shaanxi's efforts and achievements in boosting employment for the group.
It suggested implementing and improving laws and policies on employment and entrepreneurship for the disabled, offering more policy support and vocational skills training, creating new jobs, and enhancing the quality of employment.
The members also called for efforts to build a better service system, publicize typical examples on helping the disadvantaged group find jobs and start businesses, innovate the proportional employment form, and increase support for people with disabilities.
