Wan Gang gives keynote speech at World Intelligence Conference

Wan Gang, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), has called for efforts to make new-generation artificial intelligence (AI) a universal technology for the benefit of all humankind.

Wan, also president of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), made the remarks at the sixth World Intelligence Conference (WIC) held in North China's Tianjin municipality on June 24.

In his keynote speech, Wan said China's new-generation AI features rapid development, expanded functions, cross-disciplinary integration, high security, and efficient performance. He called for greater efforts to study new development trends, emerging challenges and ethical norms for intelligent technology development.

Wan also acknowledged the progress of the WIC over five years of development, saying it has become an international platform for exchanges and a showroom for the world's latest AI achievements.

Wan said it is important to work together to pursue open and inclusive development, overcome the challenges humanity faces through scientific and technological innovation, and create a better future with new-generation AI.
