Zheng Jianbang, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, has called for high-quality democratic supervision over ecological protection efforts for the Yangtze River.
He made the remarks during a work meeting of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang (RCCK) concerning the supervision initiative in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, on June 24.
Zheng, who is also executive vice-chairman of the RCCK Central Committee, acknowledged the progress in supervising the conservation of China's longest river amid close cooperation with the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee and the provincial government since 2021.
To better exercise democratic supervision, Zheng called for the RCCK Central Committee to increase its work capacity, give full play to role of experts in social, legal and agricultural affairs, and advance the two key research topics of the RCCK Central Committee – improving the legal system for the river's protection and controlling agricultural non-point source pollution.
It's also necessary to study the systematic and policy problems affecting the river's ecological protection and summarize Hubei's experiences, according to Zheng.
