The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) held a seminar via video link on June 16 on enhancing people-to-people dialogue and understanding between China and Europe.

In the webinar, participants from the two sides exchanged views on the current international situation, the opportunities and challenges China-EU relations are facing, and new paths to cooperation.

Lou Jiwei, chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee, said the CPPCC National Committee and its Committee on Foreign Affairs are willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with relevant institutions in Europe in promoting the steady and sound development of China-EU relations.

Other members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of upholding the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit in China-EU relations. China's stance on issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang and the South China Sea was set forth at the meeting.

European participants, including Germany's former defense minister Rudolf Albert Scharping, said it's important to enhance exchanges and mutual trust between Europe and China so as to make positive contributions to world peace and economic growth.
