The Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a seminar on improving the mechanism for realizing the value of ecological products in Beijing on May 11.

The members of the survey team exchanged ideas with officials and representatives from relevant ministries, commissions, and Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces via video link.

At the meeting, Li Bin, vice-chairwoman and secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, stressed the importance and necessity of establishing and improving the mechanism for realizing the value of ecological products, as well as theoretical research and practical measures to this end.

Li suggested a problem-oriented and goal-centered approach, and called for efforts to set standards for ecological product value accounting and promote accounting standardization. She proposed summarizing and promoting experience and practices, and improving the value realization mechanism of ecological products.

He Wei, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, pointed out that progress has been made since the guideline on establishing and improving the mechanism for realizing the value of ecological products was issued and implemented one year ago.

Efforts should be made to strengthen exploration and research on the relationship between gross ecosystem product (GEP) and GDP, He noted, saying that in the context of achieving China's dual carbon goals ( peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060), carbon trading and carbon sinks should be used to promote the realization of ecological products' value and the carbon market should be improved and expanded.

It's necessary to sum up pilot experience, establish a standard system for high-quality ecological products, build high-quality brands, and better realize the value of ecological products, he added.

The survey was conducted ahead of a thematic consultative meeting  to be held by the CPPCC National Committee on promoting green, low-carbon and high-quality development in June.
