Liu Qibao, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with Trinidad and Tobago's Senate Vice-President Muhammad Yunus Ibrahim via video link on May 10 in Beijing.
Liu said that the two countries have seen frequent high-profile exchanges and enjoyed a solid foundation of political mutual trust since the two countries established diplomatic relations 48 years ago.
He said he hopes that the two sides will continue to carry forward their traditional friendship, deepen high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road, and bring more tangible benefits to the two countries and their people.
China welcomes Trinidad and Tobago to actively support and participate in the China-proposed Global Development Initiative (GDI) and the Global Security Initiative (GSI), and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, Liu noted.
He added that the CPPCC National Committee is willing to strengthen exchanges with the Senate and all sectors of society of Trinidad and Tobago, and work together to promote their comprehensive cooperative partnership featuring mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and common development.
Ibrahim thanked the Chinese side for its support in the COVID-19 fight and spoke highly of the GDI and GSI, saying that his senate will strengthen cooperation with the CPPCC National Committee to boost bilateral ties between the two countries.
