Wan Gang, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), gave a speech at a seminar on implementing China's talent strategy in the new era on May 6.
The seminar was held virtually by the Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports of the CPPCC National Committee on May 6 and 7, to prepare for a thematic consultative meeting in July.
Wan said that the Communist Party of China (CPC) has always attached great importance to talents and called for more efforts to implement the talent strategy in the new era.
Wan, who is also chairman of the Central Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party and president of the China Association for Science and Technology, said reform in talent development mechanisms and systems should be deepened.
He called for creating a favorable environment for talents' improvement, adding that it is essential to set priorities and progress gradually in accelerating efforts to build talent centers and innovation hubs of global importance.
The strategic role of talents in advancing development should be firmly upheld, and efforts must be made to implement in earnest the key task of cultivating, introducing and utilizing talents, Wan added.
Wan also stressed strengthening the cultivation of talents in basic academic disciplines, and making solid progress in implementing the key tasks of the strategy of improving China's national strength through talent development in the new era.
Officials from the CPC provincial committees, CPPCC provincial committees and governments of Hubei and Gansu provinces exchanged ideas with the CPPCC National Committee research team via video link.
