Hosted by the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSL), the ninth Dajiang Forum kicked off in the form of a video conference on April 22, under the theme of promoting the wellbeing of people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits and advancing China's peaceful reunification.

Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and chairwoman of the TDSL Central Committee, announced the opening of the forum, which was attended by guests from both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

In meeting representatives from Taiwan, Su said the TDSL is willing to work together with Taiwan compatriots to carry forward the glorious tradition of patriotism and promote the complete reunification of the motherland.

In his speech, Li Yuefeng, executive vice-chairman of the TDSL Central Committee, urged Taiwan compatriots to become clear of the historical trend, grasp the new opportunities of the times, and oppose separatist elements advocating "Taiwan independence".

Wu Jung-yuan, chairman of Taiwan's Labor Party, and Wu Cherng-dean, chairman of Taiwan's New Party, delivered speeches via video link.
