The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its 15th seminar on issues related to population, resources and environment in Beijing on March 30.
Participants shared thoughts on green, low-carbon and high-quality development at the gathering, which was held in preparation for a thematic consultative seminar scheduled for June by the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee.
Li Bin, vice-chairperson and secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, said coordinated efforts to advance green and high-quality development are a requisite for full, accurate and comprehensive implementation of China's new development philosophy, an essential part of China's drive to peak carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality, and a natural element of a people-centered development philosophy. She called for innovative efforts and a down-to-earth attitude to promote all-around green transformation of social and economic development.
Noting that the CPPCC is an important channel and specialized body for socialist consultative democracy, Li said it's important to carry out in-depth studies, promote consultations and discussions, and put forward valuable suggestions and recommendations for progress in these endeavors. Efforts should also be made to unite communities in thinking and action in line with the decisions and plans of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.
He Wei, also vice-chairperson of the CPPCC National Committee, said systematic and persistent efforts are needed to advance integrated green transformation, which consists of changes to the energy mix, industrial structure, production mode, and ways of work and life. Despite problems and difficulties, China has already made solid and steady progress in this initiative, and people should be confident in making new achievements, He said.
He also called for efforts to put the new development concept into practice, deepen reform, and motivate regions to play more active roles in bolstering sustainable development.
Officials from the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and other departments introduced work that has been done on many fronts at the meeting. CPPCC National Committee members Ma Yongsheng, Chen Jinxing, Bai Chong'en, Jiang Yaodong, Yu Dehui, Li Pengde and Li Yuanyuan shared their views and suggestions on industrial restructuring, ecological protection, and regulation improvement at the meeting.
