The Central Committee of the China Democratic League (CDL) held a meeting on March 18 to kick off research under the theme "Promoting Common Prosperity with Solid Efforts", a study commissioned by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Ding Zhongli, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and chairman of the CDL Central Committee, and Chen Xiaoguang, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended the meeting.

During exchanges with experts, Ding outlined three guidelines for the research project. First, it should focus on how to expand the middle-income group, especially rural migrant workers, and gain an in-depth understanding of their status transition from rural farmers to rural migrant workers and finally as new urban citizens. Second, the research should zoom in on core problems and provide suggestions on how to formulate action plans and set up targets in the short, medium and long terms. Third, it's important to adopt a comprehensive and forward-looking approach in the research and explore the systems and mechanisms that contribute to the expansion of the middle-income group.

Ding also said efforts are needed to mobilize the CDL across the board for research, acquire full and detailed information, and produce a high-quality report.

In the research, leaders of the CDL Central Committee will lead teams to conduct field studies in Zhejiang and Sichuan provinces starting from April. It will also include a questionnaire in the CDL for the research.

During the meeting, Feng Kui, vice-chairman of the Economic Committee of the CDL Central Committee, gave a brief introduction of the background and preparations for the research as the head of the research team. Experts put forward their opinions and suggestions on aspects that included regulations, social security, and expected targets.
