Li Bin, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), presided over the first meeting of the executive board of the eighth council of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation on Jan 27.

Noting that the meeting was held on Soong Ching Ling's 129th birthday, Li, also chairwoman of the foundation, said Soong, who was honorary president of China, made outstanding contributions to the country's revolution, construction and reform, as well as world peace, in her life, adding that it is important to inherit and carry forward her legacy.

She said the foundation will mark its 40th anniversary this year and should actively align its efforts with the priorities of the Communist Party of China and the country, such as deepening exchanges between the mainland and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and advancing the development of the philanthropic sector.

Efforts should also be made to improve the planning of projects, diversify forms and channels for the council's members to give full play to their strengths, and support the foundation’s progress, Li said.
