The number and quality of proposals made by members of the Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in the past year have reached a new height, Dong Yunhu, chairman of the committee said on Wednesday.
The members submitted 1,071 proposals last year and 1,021 were received by relevant government departments, meaning actions will be taken to tackle the related issues, said Dong at the opening of the annual session of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee.
"When many proposals are adopted and make an impact, they help the city's social, financial, ecological, cultural, and political constructions and propel its integrated and holistic development," he said.
Among the proposals, 102 were made to the health authority. The economy and education authorities received 94 and 90 proposals respectively.
In addition, the CPPCC Shanghai Committee has maintained it position at the forefront of the country in terms of collecting public opinions, Dong said.
"We received nearly 18,000 articles regarding social conditions and public opinions, and complied 1,850 documents," Dong said.
Dong said the committee's members conducted more than 100 inspections of several key projects in the city last year. These projects include renovation of old buildings, adding lifts to old residential buildings, and providing care for the elderly. The members later generated 485 suggestions.
