The Committee on Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a plenary meeting in Beijing on Jan 11. 

The meeting, attended by Gu Shengzu, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, and Luo Zhijun, chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Affairs, summarized the work done in 2021 as they planned for 2022. 

Gu pointed out that 2021 was a milestone year as the country embarks on a new journey of comprehensively building a modern socialist China. It also marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. 

He stressed that the committee focused on the key tasks of rural vitalization and innovation in the performance of its duties, and has built its working style as a brand.

The committee should prioritize consolidating the poverty reduction achievements, promoting all-round rural vitalization and the modernization of the agricultural sector through strengthening the functions of the CPPCC as a special consultative institution. CPPCC members should be made aware of their responsibilities, he said. 

For his part, Luo spoke highly of the efforts made by the committee in 2021. He called on committee members to focus on rural vitalization and modernizing agriculture and rural areas via regular meetings, expert consultations, symposiums, and democratic supervision.
