Shao Hong, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended the opening of an exhibition on the traditional Chinese culture related to ice and snow at a community center in Shijingshan district of Beijing on Dec 28.
The exhibition was held by the Jiu San Society to support the 2022 Winter Olympic Games and help the public embrace the rich cultural heritage centered on ice and snow in the country.
Shao, also executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiu San Society, said Beijing has made a satisfactory progress in overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic and ensuring a smooth preparation for the Winter Olympics.
He noted such progress reflects the institutional strengths of socialism with Chinese characteristics, China's vitality and wisdom, and the shared commitment of people from all walks of life.
Shao said the Jiu San Society has actively fulfilled its role in building consensus, promoting the Olympic spirit, spreading the culture of the Winter Olympics, and helping make Beijing 2022 a success.
In his speech, Shao also urged all sides to stay committed to hosting the Games in a green, shared, open and clean manner, deliver a simple, safe and splendid Olympic Games, and turn it into a milestone in the country’s journey towards realizing the second centenary goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects.
Chen Ning, director-general of the Culture and Ceremonies Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (BOCOG), said the Jiu San Society has attached great importance to the promotion of the ice and snow culture and the support for the Games' preparation. Chen also recognized that the 3-year-long study by the Jiu San Society on the cultural heritage of ice and snow is an academic and thought achievement.
In support of the hosting of the Winter Olympics, the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Jiu San Society has put forward more than ten proposals on such topics as services and public participation, and organized consultation meetings on various topics. Some members of the Jiu San Society were also directly engaged in the planning and design for Games venues and the Beijing Winter Olympics Park.
