Zheng Jianbang, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics has stimulated the development of the ice and snow sectors at a conference in Jilin, Northeast China's Jilin province, on Dec 25.
The 2021 Ice and Snow Economy High-quality Development Conference, along with the first World Skiing Vacation–Jilin Beidahu Summit, was jointly organized by the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, the Jilin Provincial People's Government, and the CPPCC Jilin Provincial Committee.
Zheng said China is seeing accelerated growth in industries related to ice and snow activities, such as fitness, recreation, cultural tourism, facility services, sports training and equipment manufacturing, which has played an active role in advancing the Health China Initiative, optimizing China's economic structure, and supporting overall social progress.
Zheng, also executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, said the industries' booming development and people's rising interest in ice and snow sports form a good environment to boost domestic consumption and also help build China's new development paradigm.
To underpin the industries' high-quality growth, Zheng called for problem-oriented approaches, strengthening of top-level design, integration of support policies, cultivation of a stable consumer base, a well-rounded talent pool and faster development of equipment manufacturing.
At the conference, Jing Junhai, secretary of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, said the province, which has a cold and snowy climate, will pursue sustainable development and take the advantage of the Winter Olympics to realize industrial upgrading and economic growth.
Jiang Zelin, chairman of the CPPCC Jilin Provincial Committee, unveiled an initiative for the high-quality development of China's ice and snow-centered economy at the event.
The conference saw the signing of agreements for 20 projects worth more than 54 billion yuan ($8.5 billion) to be launched in the city of Jilin.
