Late Chinese vice premier's birth anniversary commemorated

BEIJING -- A symposium was held in Beijing on Friday to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of former vice-premier Wu Xueqian, who was an outstanding leader in China's diplomatic field. 

Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended the symposium and met with Wu's family beforehand. 

Wu served as a member of the Political Bureau of the 12th and 13th CPC Central Committee, Chinese state councilor, vice-premier, and vice-chairman of the eighth National Committee of the CPPCC. 

Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, highlighted Wu's contribution to the country and the people throughout his remarkable life. Yang called for following Wu's example and putting more effort into realizing the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation. 

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi also attended the symposium.
