Gu Shengzu, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended and addressed a symposium on rural vitalization on Nov 19.

The symposium was also attended by members of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee, experts, scholars, and government officials.

In his address, Gu called for more patience in promoting rural vitalization as the country embarks on the new journey toward building a modern socialist country in all respects.

He stressed the need to improve the rural commercial service system, encourage small household farmers to become involved in modern agriculture, and consolidate scientific and technological support, so as to enhance agriculture development.

To beautify the rural areas, Gu suggested improvements in the rural living environment and infrastructure, and wide access to basic public services in the countryside.

Gu urged efforts to increase farmers' income and consolidate the achievement of poverty eradication. He said it is necessary to coordinate the development and security of agriculture, ensure national food security, and cultivate rural human resources.

He also called for better protection of the ecological environment, ensuring the quality and safety of agricultural products, and advancing the integrated development of urban and rural areas.
