Wang Yongqing, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, said improving the facilities and services for senior citizens is a project that requires innovations and consistent efforts by various parties.

Wang made the remarks at a symposium organized by the Committee on Social and Legal Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee on Nov 18 in Beijing.

Wang praised the practices made by ministries, commissions, and local governments, as well as their achievements in creating a more accessible environment for the elderly.

He pointed out some challenges and tough hurdles to realizing the goals for a senior citizen-friendly environment outlined by the 14th Five-Year Plan  (2021-25).

To promote the progress, Wang suggested overall planning and coordination, an improved leadership and coordination mechanism, and more efforts to set standards and norms.

He also called for the participation of everyone in society, including financial institutions, enterprises, and public welfare and charitable organizations, so as to build a market-oriented mechanism with balanced supply and demand and diversified investment.
