He Wei, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended a consultation meeting on Nov 16 to supervise and promote the handling of a proposal on improving birth supportive policies to promote a balanced population growth.

The meeting, organized by the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the CPPCC National Committee, focused on a key proposal tabled by the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party (CPWDP) at the fourth session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee in March 2021.

He, also executive vice-chairman of the CPWDP Central Committee, said China faces prominent problems in promoting a balanced population growth, amid a rapidly aging population and a declining birthrate. He called for relevant departments to have an in-depth study on the third-child policy to address the demographic challenges.

He also emphasized that it requires a systematic approach to improve the measures on economic, social, legal, and cultural fronts to build a robust support system. It's necessary to further reduce the burden of childbirth, parenting and education, he added.

The CPPCC National Committee will continue to promote the handling of the key proposal and advance the introduction of supportive measures through consultation meetings, researches and other means, according to He.
