Zhang Qingli, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), gave a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 1st Boao Forum For Asia (BFA) Global Economic Development and Security Forum held in Changsha, capital of Hunan province, on November 19.
As challenges to sustainable development have gone far beyond war and conventional threats, Zhang said China has moved to strengthen its national security system and capacity in the hopes of ensuring economic security, safeguarding people's lives, and maintaining social stability.
He said peace and development remain the theme of the times.
Zhang also called on the international community to make joint efforts to boost development and security through win-win cooperation and better governance, with an aim to achieve higher-quality development that is more efficient, equitable, sustainable, and secure.
