The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a symposium in Beijing on Oct 18 to analyze China's macroeconomic situation in the third quarter of this year.

Gu Shengzu and Gao Yunlong, both vice-chairmen of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the meeting and gave speeches.

At the meeting, Sheng Laiyun, deputy head of the National Bureau of Statistics, introduced the country's economic performance during the quarter and a leading official of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce briefed attendees on the performance of private enterprises, while the National Development and Reform Commission provided a written presentation.

Members of the CPPCC National Committee and experts shared their ideas and suggestions for the country's economic development.

The CPPCC members agreed that China has used effective macro policies to achieve stable economic growth and make new progress in pursuing high-quality development.

However, in the context of uncertainties regarding global economic recovery and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as well as the domestic challenges, it's important to double efforts to promote sustainable and healthy economic growth, address chronic structural contradictions in China's economy and society from a wide perspective, adopt flexible and effective monetary policies, and stimulate growth by introducing new measures and projects in urbanization and regional development, according to the CPPCC members.

The members also suggested greater efforts to ensure safe energy supplies, maintain the continuity and consistency of macro policies, and resolve financial risks by accelerating the compilation of local government balance sheets. Other suggested measures included increased government transfer payments to low-income groups and implementation of policies and measures to support the development of private enterprises.
