Led by Zhang Qingli, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a team visited South China's Hainan province from Sept 22 to 25 to survey efforts on expanding domestic demand as a strategic priority in establishing a new development paradigm.
Zhang, also chairman of the China Economic and Social Council, recognized Hainan's solid progress in building a free trade port, pursuing high-quality economic development, and boosting domestic demand as a strategic underpinning.
He said efforts to expand domestic demand should be combined with initiatives for improving supply systems, promoting common prosperity, stimulating rural revitalization, and expanding external demand.
He called on CPPCC members to contribute to the drive by offering good advice, strengthening communication, supervising the work, and helping the Party committees and governments make scientific and democratic decisions.
The survey team visited industrial parks and enterprises in Haikou, Yangpu, Sanya, Lingshui and Qionghai, where they listened to reports from various parties and gained a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges in building the Hainan free trade port.
