Interaction and coordination should be strengthened among the upper, middle and lower reaches of the Chishui River, as well as on its both banks, so as to better protect the ecology of the basin, said Zheng Jianbang, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), on Sept 23.
Zheng, also executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of Chinese Kuomintang (RCCK), made the remarks at a conference on promoting cooperation in constructing ecological civilization in the Chishui River basin, which was held in Xishui, Southwest China's Guizhou province.
The Chishui River is the only first-class tributary on the upper reaches of China's Yangtze River that maintains its natural shape. It cuts through the provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan.
Zheng spoke highly of the joint efforts of the three provinces to improve ecology, boost industries and benefiting local people through their coordination and innovative protection mechanism.
He urged enhancing the awareness that the ecological protection of the Chishui River basin is of great significance for the protection of the whole Yangtze River basin.
He called for tailored policies on developing green industries and efficient use of all kinds of resources to turn natural resources into a source of well-being for local people.
The coordination mechanism between CPPCC local committees, between CPPCC committees and government departments, and between CPPCC committees and non-Communist parties should be optimized, Zheng noted, urging efforts to explore innovative methods to help CPPCC members better conduct political consultation.
As for common problems in addressing pollution, Zheng proposed joint inspection and supervision and timely feedback to local Party committees and governments.
Starting in 2017, the meeting is convened annually. The meeting this year was held by the RCCK Central Committee and the CPPCC provincial committees of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan.
