The Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD) has launched a campaign for democratic supervision over the work of East China's Jiangxi province to protect the ecology and environment of the Yangtze River.
At the launch meeting held in Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi, on Sept 17, Cai Dafeng, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, highlighted the significance of the five-year-long campaign, saying that it shows the great importance the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) attaches to the multi-party cooperation and the complete trust of the CPC Central Committee in non-Communist parties and personages without party affiliation.
Cai called on members of the CAPD Central Committee to support the CPC committees and local governments with constructive suggestions and to better perform their duty during the campaign.
Efforts should also be made to publicize laws and regulations and build consensus, he added.
During the meeting, Liu Xincheng, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, introduced the overall arrangements for the campaign.
Before the meeting, Cai and Liu led visits to sewage treatment plants and wetland parks in Jiujiang and Nanchang.
